What can be done with your idea?

Similar to vine work, a new kind of course generation should be created for balling contracts.

  • Here is how I imagine it:
After accepting the contract, straw swaths are generated on the field. The generator should take into account this swath layout and working width of the baler (in case it's a modified baler with a built in windrower). The generated balling course would not cover the entier field, as regular field work courses do.
The generator should take the following data into account when creating the course:
  • distance between swaths
  • width of swath
  • working width of baler
In case the machine's working width is sufficient, the course should be placed between two adjacent swaths, thus decreasing the neccessary up/down rows in the course. To handle tight turns at the end of rows, there should also be an added option to skip rows, similar to regular field work. As to the start/finish position, an other option should be added to start course at the edge or start inside.

This kind of course creation can be done by hand right now. But it is quite time consuming on irregular shaped fields, which is greater problem than the actual size of the fields.

If applicable, how would the user interface look like for this enhancement?

Interface could look similar to field work course creation page, with significantly less options, since the course layout is determined by the map (swath layout for the balling contract).

Is there an alternative?

The current alternative for this issue is to create courses by hand in the editor, which can be quite time consuming if the shape of field is irregular.
