The guide is outdated. On the installation guide page for Docker (docker-compose) it states that the content of the docker-compose.yml must begin with “version: ‘3.3’”. This attribute is obsolete.

You're right—the version attribute in docker-compose.yml is obsolete and should be removed. Recent Docker Compose versions ignore it and show a warning if it's present. The official Stirling-PDF Docker installation guide still includes version: '3.3' at the top of the example, but this is outdated and not needed anymore (docs). Project updates have already removed the version line from repository compose files to align with current best practices (PR #3965), and community discussions confirm it should be deleted (discussion).

Here's a corrected example for your docker-compose.yml (just start with services:):
