plugin breaking indexes on 2022.3

Hi, while using Webstorm 2022.3 (223.7571.168) the plugin is breaking the indexes in random forcing Webstorm to display an alert about broken indexes due to max open files on macos Ventura (intel) and it asks to restart.

After Invalidate caching works for a while and then it starts breaking indexes again.

Things to notice:

1. Shared indexes is turned off and plugin is removed from Webstorm
2. ios and android folders are excluded
3. I have set my max open files to 200K on my macos:

launchctl limit maxfiles      
	maxfiles    200000         2147483647

I could not spot the issue for days when suddenly an error from Webstorm showed up that this plugin has issues on index stab (right after the corrupt indexes alert). After uninstalling the plugin 5-6 days ago the issue has not reappeared again, ever.

Thanks for reporting this issue and we are sorry for the bad experience here.

In case you can reproduce the problem again:

Capture CPU snapshot of slow indexing

Invoke Help | Diagnostic | Profile Indexing. Click Invalidate and Restart (please note that Local History and Indices will be destroyed). Click Open Snapshot in ... to locate the snapshot, upload them here(you may zip it first).

If indexing doesn't stop, invoke Help | Diagnostic | Stop CPU Usage Profiling after waiting on the indexing phase a bit.

Then also collect the IDE logs (Help | Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data), upload them here, and we will investigate it.

Hi, this is still happening on IntelliJ IDEA 2024.2.3 (Ultimate Edition).

Every now and then it breaks the indexes, at least 3-4 times per working day. After uninstalling it 3 days ago life got back to normal.

I cannot provide diagnostics, sorry, too many sensitive data in there.

I've cancelled my 1yr subscription and requested a refund from IntelliJ. If this ever fixed I'll be happy to resubscribe.

Can you find the opened file list processes by IDE's process name:

lsof -c processname

Find processes by PID:

lsof -p 123

or get the list of open files by the process via the default activity monitor application. Just double click on the relevant process on the list and select "Open Files and Ports" tab on the popup.

Are there any files opened outside of the WebStorm folder about that, e.g., like, node? It is possible that the plugin does not terminate some processes.

lsof -p IDEA_PID -> The list is huge, is there something in particular you want to check?

Right after the indexes went crazy I run this:

lsof -n +c 0 | sed -E 's/^([^ ]+[ ]+[^ ]+).*$/\1/' | uniq -c | sort | tail

which gives something in the range of:

Is there any function you use frequently in the plugin? E.g., run Android, etc.

the only functions I use regularly are ios -> select emulator -> run

(After running I keep the tabs of each simulator open)

Hi @efstathiosntonas, did the command only start the emulator. app? Did the use of the IDE's run external tool (Settings | Tools | External Tools) doesn't have the same issue?
