Why moth?

I couldn’t find a clear answer about this.
Why are moths used as symbols/logos in some HTTP libraries?
I’ve noticed this in projects like Respx and Hishel.
Is there any story or intentional meaning behind this, or is it just a random choice?

They're butterflies, not moths. The theme comes from HTTPX.

Tom Christie swapped the old black-and-white "pinned wings" sketch for a live butterfly photo in encode/httpx#1382. The vibe in that PR was basically: a living butterfly as the successor to requests.

Stuff in the same orbit picked it up. RESPX uses a butterfly emoji in the README, and Hishel plus a few other HTTPX-adjacent tools do the same kind of branding.

So it's ecosystem kinship, not a deep HTTP metaphor. People say "moth" because the silhouette looks similar if you squint.

(Also: ProjectDiscovery has a totally different tool named httpx. Not related to this logo.)
