Error: write EPIP when opening the CLI #2072

@DefinetlyNotAI

Description

@DefinetlyNotAI

Describe the bug

Opening the CLI shows Error: write EPIP and also the AI just starts spouting garbage saying that it doesnt have access to:

  • Powershell
  • Git
  • Other command-line based tools, and skills

Affected version

GitHub Copilot CLI 1.0.5.

Steps to reproduce the behavior

I am not sure.. Issue started occurring once I installed the update, Issue occurs on startup:

Shell startup output

● 🧪 Experimental mode is enabled. These features are not stable, may have bugs, and may be removed in the future.

✗ Error: write EPIPE

● Environment loaded: 3 MCP servers, 5 plugins, 20 skills, 3 agents

When I turned experimental features off and restarted copilot I got:

✗ Error: write EPIPE

✗ Error: write EPIPE

✗ Error: write EPIPE

✗ Error: write EPIPE

● Environment loaded: 3 MCP servers, 5 plugins, 20 skills, 3 agents

Expected behavior

Not have Error that is very ambiguous and not helpful at all, and be able to have a coherent usable agent not just a chatbot

Additional context

Using Windows
x86_64 CPU
Windows Terminal
Powershell 7 with Oh My Posh: atomic, Terminal Icons and PSUtil modules

Note

I have attempted running copilot with a pwsh -NoProfile then running copilot, still same issue

Also another minor issue is your additional context tells us to use --log-file but copilot says that doesnt exist and > user should use --log-dir - Do update your bug report
