Reusing an existing private key during lego run

I have a use case where I would like to use an existing private key within the .lego/certificates path with lego run.
Currently, this overwrites the <domain>.key file with a new private key.

I'm not sure if this is a specification it the ACME protocol, or if it's an implementation issue with Lego.
