Problems with iw3.desktop.gui under Linux Mint 21.2 (Ubuntu 24.04)

Hello,

I am having problems with iw3.desktop.gui on Linux (Mint 21.2, aka Ubuntu 24.04).

First of all, my goal:
I want to get the HSBS output from iw3.desktop.gui in viewer mode on my FireTV 4k stick, which is connected to my LG 3DTV.
Unfortunately, streamer mode via the Fire stick's Silk browser is extremely slow and unstable.
On Windows, I got around this as follows:

1. Created a virtual display as a second screen (I don't have a real second monitor).
2. Selected the virtual display as the source in iw3.desktop.gui -> press "Start" in iw3.desktop.gui -> HSBS output appears in the window on my real monitor
3. I use “parsec” to transfer data to the stick.

This works quite well, but unfortunately a little too slowly. Instead of the desired 30 fps, I only achieve about 28 fps with my 3060.

My idea was to try the whole thing under Linux, because iw3 generally runs faster here and hopefully iw3.desktop.gui will too.

Progress and problems under Linux:

1. I set up the virtual display
2. I installed the dev branch of iw3 (iw3 works perfectly)
3. When starting iw3.desktop.gui, I got an error message regarding mss, but it quickly disappeared with “pip3 install mss”

Now I've reached a point where I can't continue...

• In iw3.desktop.gui in viewer mode, I can't select the virtual display (there is no selection box).
• When I press “Start,” I get the message “Local Viewer Not Available.”

I would be grateful for any help or ideas.

Missing the mss module indicates that the dependency libraries have not been installed correctly.
After git pull, the following operations may be required.

python -m pip install -r requirements.txt
python -m pip install -r requirements-gui.txt
python -m iw3.download_models

Also, iw3.desktop does not work properly on Wayland. Please log in using X11 mode.

I am not sure whether it works with multiple monitors.
When using screenshot=mss, a monitor index can be specified, but I have never tested that.

i did not use "python -m pip install -r requirements-gui.txt" because in ubuntu install readme it looks like i only have to use it when i want to build wxpython from source.

Linux Mint uses X11 as default.

It is probably because PyOpenGL is not installed. It is included in requirements-gui.txt.
The required xlib is also included in the same file.

As additional info here`s how i created the virtual display:

Create "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-virtualdisplay.conf" with the following content:

    Device      "nvidiagpu"
    Option      "ConnectedMonitor" "HDMI-0, DP-0"
    Option      "ModeValidation" "NoDFPNativeResolutionCheck,NoVirtualSizeCheck,NoMaxPClkCheck,NoHorizSyncCheck,NoVertRefreshCheck,NoWidthAlignmentCheck AllowNonEdidModes"

(May be you have to edit the display port names in "Option "ConnectedMonitor" "HDMI-0, DP-0".
Type "xrandr" in terminal to find them on your system)

After creating the config file type "sudo systemctl restart display-manager" or reboot system
