User profile column settings inaccessible after selecting gallery view

When a user profile column is changed to gallery view, the settings panel disappears and can't be accessed.

Steps to reproduce the issue

1. Add a column for a user profile (not a feed).
2. Click on the column settings button (leftmost button in the top right button bar in the column).
3. Choose the "Gallery" layout option.

The settings panel will disappear but its button still appears to show that it is shown. Nothing in the settings panel is accessible and the column layout can't be changed anymore.
