Opening hours for cinema

Currently we ask for opening hours for amenity=cinema:

In my experience, many cinemas do not have their opening hours signed, since these depend on the program. Should we maybe exclude them from the quest? Or maybe only ask for updates (if opening_hours are already tagged),

I have no real experience with cinemas, so I will not make such PR but if it will be made and noone will protest I will merge it

Same btw for planetarium.
Both offer "shows" no walkin experience

Things like planetariums and similar guided tours only starting at predefined points in time should better be using service_times=* instead of opening_hours=*.

While technically cinemas are also mostly useful only at certain points in time (when certain movie starts), those times are much too volatile to be recorded in OSM (i.e. they change on weekly or even daily basis) (and in many cases you are allowed to enter mid-movie too, provided you have paid full ticket).

TL;DR: I'd leave them in, as it seems that globally order of magnitude more of them have opening hours then not and it is rare enough quest. But no biggie.

It is common here to have opening hours signed (e.g. https://cinestarcinemas.hr/kontakti-i-radno-vrijeme).

But if it isn't common at other places, turning it off might be acceptable, as it is lower-value information anyway IMHO -- i.e. while it is very useful for places which are usable at all times (like shops), I would imagine most people would go to cinema only when there is movie they want to watch, and that will be available only at specific times.¹

But then again:

• cinemas are usually rare enough not to be spammy even if none of them were signed in your area. ²

• [doing some research] Also, there seems to be 2887 cinemas with tagged opening_hours, and only 223 with opening_hours:signed=no (which SC would add).

So, I would probably prefer to keep asking for them. But I certainly would not be terribly upset if others would prefer to remove them...

I'm not opposed if others would prefer that, but I personally slightly prefer asking always (especially as there are relatively rare POI), so it initially gets either opening_hours or opening_hours:signed=no tag.

And isApplicableTo() logic for that quest seems complex enough as it is, without adding such cinema-specific hacks in 😅
