Nuclear Thermal Rockets

Things that matter???

  • Engine and reactor are separate (for trimodal)
  • Reactor has slow response to throttle
  • Reactor transmutes uranium when running
  • Higher Isp has actual waste heat
  • Trimodal modes have waste heat

ideas

  • No reactor minimum throttle

  • Engine acceleration and deceleration handle 'exhaust' cooling

  • Waste heat only happens when reactor is generating power

  • handle all overspill heat (GCRs, etc) with ModuleSystemHeat

Sequences

Engine turned on

  1. Action clicked
  2. Reactor forced on, climbs to min power level or throttle, whichever is higher

Engine turned off

  1. Action clicked
  2. Reactor stays on, set to min power level

Reactor turned on

  1. Action clicked
  2. Reactor on
  3. Engine stays at previous state
  4. Reactor power increase to min power level or throttle, whichever is higher

Reactor turned off

  1. Action clicked
  2. IF engine is on, engine forced off
  3. Reactor power level goes to zero
