Description

This is the same fix as #53 , which was landed and then reverted in #57 due to a bug.

I included an additional commit to restore the not which was left out in the original conversion. In my local testing this resolves all failures with both Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 (using Python 3.12)

it's not available on Ubuntu anymore since it's EOL
